ACCEPTABLE SERVICE IN THE KINGDOM                                                                                                        Dr Wole Gbogboade
Text: 1 Thes. 1: 1-7
Everything in the kingdom start and end with leadership. Therefore, attention is focused more in character rooted in sound doctrine of Jesus Christ than in secular knowledge. As earlier said, the word and the Holy Spirit work together to produce godly fruit in the lives of believers to become effective Christian leaders. “By their fruit, you shall know them.” Matt. 7: 20 (v. 16-20). The Lord God also said, “they will bring forth fruit after their own kind…” Gen. 1:24
“Every time we think of you, we thank God for you. Day and night you’re in our prayers as we call to mind your work of faith, your labour of love, and your patience of hope in following our Master, Jesus Christ, before God our Father. It is clear to us, friends that God not only loves you very much but also has put his hand on you for something special. When the Message we preached came to you, it wasn’t just words. Something happened in you. The Holy Spirit put steel in your convictions.” 1 Thess. 1: 2-5 (MSG)
Since every building’s strength is determined by its foundation, attention is paid to foundation in the kingdom. Your Christian foundation is very important just like a tree and shrub foundation are not the same, likewise a bungalow and storey building’s foundation can never be the same. Luke 6: 46-49, 2 Tim. 2: 19-22. Your foundation in Christ determine your fruit, fruitfulness and faithfulness. It is never by quantity either but, by the quality of lives you are raising for God and His kingdom. 1 Cor. 3: 10. Gal. 6: 7-8.
Apostles’ example of appointing leaders: Acts 6: 1-7
“So, brothers and sisters, choose seven of your men who have a good reputation. They must be full of wisdom and the Spirit. We will give them this work to do.” Acts 6:3 (ERV).
The three things mentioned here namely: good reputation has to do with character. Secondly, wisdom of God not of this world that is crooked. James 3: 13, 17. (NLT). The evidence of Godly wisdom is understanding the way of God, living a honourable life, doing good works with humility that comes from God. v. 13. Ref. Exodus 18: 20-21.
It is true that among Jesus disciples were “ignorant” men but having been taught by Jesus Christ and graduated from the School of The Holy Spirit, the same people who called them ignorant men, by the time they heard them, they took cognizance of the fact that they have been with JESUS! Acts 4:13
