THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS Part 2
Pastor Wole Gbogboade
Text: Mark 10: 42-45
LESSONS FROM THE CROSS:
Jesus had set a kingdom operating pattern for us to emulate. The message of the Cross simply signifies selflessness. It signifies expression of the true and unfeigned love of God to man so that man may live in the love of God. This means we should express genuine and sincere love to one another. When we do that, we are living for God and to please God on Earth.
“Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” 1 John 3:16
If you know John 3:16, you must endeavor to understand 1 John 3:16. How does that operate in our lives?
Look up to God in worship, praise Him and appreciate Him. Then pray for your brethren first. (Intercession). 1Tim. 2:1-4.
Paul emphasized the word first to show its importance. It is important to God that we first pray for others before ourselves.
1- Look up: pray for those who are ahead of you in ministry, in your Church, in your family or job/business.
2- Look down: Pray for those who are under you: subordinates, workers in Church or secular.
3- Sideways: Pray for those who are your brethren, colleagues or contemporaries. (Right). Pray for your enemies: Take authority over Satan, bind devil and his demons in Jesus name. (spiritual); pray for your physical enemies (natural)
4- Look forward: See the faithfulness of the Lord as you express your faith with thanksgiving, to see your prayer answered. Romans 8:32
Give to God and to those who are above you: your pastor, parents and those who are above you. Secondly, give to the needy, the poor such as destitute, orphans. Prov. 19:17. And give to widows and strangers. Thirdly, give those that are at par with you to help them fulfill God’s purpose for their lives. Finally, look forward for God’s faithfulness in your own life with thanksgiving. Prov. 3:9-10, 11:24-25
First, serve God and those who are ahead of you with joy and humility. Secondly, serve those who are following you as unto the Lord- be a servant leader like Jesus. Thirdly, serve your colleagues and brethren. Fourthly, look forward to God for His faithful reward. Luke 16:10-12
Love the Lord with all your heart, soul and might. Then, love your leader; love those who are under you and your enemies (neighbor). Mark 12:29-31
In summary, the message of the Cross is selflessness, sacrificial love (agape) and kindred spirit expression. This manifests God’s character in our lives. Jesus had come to reveal the true nature of God to man and to reconcile man to God. Matt. 5:3-16
He had come to turn the minus in man (life without God) to plus which man living the life of God. He had come to change negative in man to positive or sinners to saints for those who believe so, that the Gentiles can become a part of the commonwealth of Israel and partaker of God’s inheritance by faith, that aliens or slaves may have sonship right through Christ. Galatians 3: 13-14, 26-28. 2 Cor. 5:17, 21.
Finally, God has now given us the ministry of reconciliation. 2 Cor. 5:18.
God bless you richly
