WALKING IN THE LIGHT OF THE TRUTH Part 1
                                                              Pastor Wole Gbogboade
TEXT: 3 John 1-8
The Church of Jesus Christ is the True Church and is the Church of the truth. The Church was born by the Spirit of the Truth in the Upper room. Since then, the apostles who were filled by the Holy Spirit began to testify of the Truth, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, apart from the fact that the New Testament Church is born of the Spirit of Christ, the next in the nature of the Church of Jesus is truth. Our Lord Jesus Christ said of Himself,
“I am the Way, and the Truth and the Life….” John 14:6.
This simply means, when we know and walk in the Way, we will walk in the Truth then; we will have the Life of Christ. Moreover, it is the Father’s command that His children walk in the truth which means we walk in knowledge of God’s word.
“It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us.” 2John 4 (NIV)
One of the important workings of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Believer is to guide us into the knowledge of the truth.
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth….” John 16:13
Talking about the Church of God, Paul the Apostle said,
“But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” 1Tim. 3:15 (KJV)
Paul’s testimony of living a truthful life and of godly character:
“I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost.” Rom. 9:1
“The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not.” 2Cor. 11:31
The Lord was emphatic when He described those who must worship God.
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”       John 4:23-23
To worship the true God, we must be in the Spirit and worship Him in truth. These are the true worshippers in the Church. Those who seek God face as Lord not just His hands to receive from Him. They are the ones who relate with Him as Lord over their lives and who are submissive to Him to lead, guide and direct their lives according to His will. They have crucified the flesh and are willing to live for God and for His glory. Gal. 2:20
Jesus Himself said, the devil is the father of all liars. Then, why is it that lying is rampant among believers today even pastors?
1-    The old nature: when we receive Christ into our lives, the Teachings of Christ we learn and begin to live by attracts the Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of Truth to guide us into walking in new life. By so doing, we begin to avoid the old nature born after sin. Eph. 4:22-25.
“Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds.” Col. 3:9
2-   End Time spirit: The Bible says, people will not endure the truth in the last days. They will like to live a lie. 2Tim. 4:3-5; 2Tim. 3:1-5
3-   Many impostors or deceivers will increase in with their cunning craftiness to deceive.2Tim. 3:13.
4-   Craftiness: They try to take advantage of ignorance of young Christians for their selfish interest. Eph. 4:14; Col. 4:2.
5-   Food: The focus of some is their belly. Anything done for God outside faith will easily lead to lying.
“For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.” Phil. 3:18-19
6-   Devil: The Lord said, the devil will use deception as a major weapon in the last days.Matt. 24:4, 23-24.
Evil Communication:
The Bible says, “Don’t let anyone deceive you. Associating with bad people will ruin decent people.” 1 Cor. 15: 33 (GW).
Micaiah was a true prophet of God by all means. However, having been associating with Ahab who loved lies, he too began to deal with Ahab like his other lying prophets. Perhaps, he was just being sarcastic or flattering Ahab. 1King 22: 14-16.
“The king said to him, (Micaiah) “How many times must I make you swear to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord.” verse 16.
7-   Ego: The old prophet in the Bible lied to the young prophet simply because he felt the young prophet had robbed him of his ego as a renowned prophet in the land probably. May be he wanted to prove his fame as a prophet or why would an old prophet lie? 1 king 13:18
8-  People lie to escape the consequences of their actions. They lie in court to evade judgment. They lie before their leaders or boss in order to hide their true identity or sin etc.
9-   So many lie to create false impression about themselves. They want make people believe they are somebody that they are not really. They end up creating a false impression of themselves. Or build false identity about themselves. But, the truth will surely catch up with them; it’s a matter of time.
10-                   Some lie because they are not willing to pay the price. In a bid to avoid paying their dues, they begin to cut corners. They say “God said” when God has not said; they fake spiritual gifts for personal gains etc. They want to take credit that they don’t deserve.
