Text: Ezekiel 18:5-9
It must be stated clearly here that success in God may not necessarily be when we have money. Success is not measured by riches instead; it is our obedience and faithfulness to the Call that determines success. Abraham and Lot made it on their own in Egypt where they fled to because of famine. But, they both lost all those wealth from Egypt. Abram decided that his blessing must come from the Lord. Gen 14:22. God blessed Abraham.

“And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.” Gen. 24:1

1- Perseverance: We must be willing to persevere to be able to overcome obstacles in life and ministry. 1Cor. 9:24-27, 2Cor. 12:12. Serving in adversity and persecution, yet still doing good work without murmuring and complaining shows the fruit of perseverance in us. 1Pet. 4:19.
2- Word: Study the word always. Sound doctrine can only be preached and taught if we have a good word study life. 1Tim. 4:13
3- Heart: Our heart must be set like a flint on Him. Isa. 50:7. Total confidence and trust in the Lord is a great blessing. Focus: We must not be distracted. Our eyes must be fixed on Jesus. Heb. 12:2-3.
4- Obedience: Obedience to God and His word is important in life and ministry. 1Sam. 15:22. God likes prompt obedience especially when we do the right thing promptly.
5- Faith: We must walk in the Spirit or walk by faith and not by sight. 2Cor. 5:7. This enables one to build according to pattern. Exo. 24:12
6- Prayer: We need to commune always with our Father. To serve successfully as servants, we must receive from Him before we give Him to the people. Luke 18:1, 1Thess. 5:17.
7- Character: Gifts can promote your ministry, only character can preserve the ministry. Integrity is the bedrock of lasting success in ministry.
8- Humility: Humility is to accept the position God has placed you or the work He has given you without comparing yourself with another nor coveting or envying another person. Phil. 2:5-11

“Except the Lord built the house, they labour in vain that build it…” Psalm 127:1
As Ministers, we must allow God to use us and bless us in His own way.

“…I will build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matt. 16:18.

We can not build for Him until we allow Him to use us to build what only He can build the way He wants it. We are just an instrument of grace in His hand. Eph.2:10, 1Cor. 3:10-15.

We must be willing to understand God’s nuggets for success in Ministry or in the work we do as believers:

1- Parable of the Talents: First, it is the Lord that gave each one 5, then 2 and 1 according to each servant’s ability.
2- Luke 16:10-12:
Faithfulness in little will bring much to you. (B) Faithfulness in unrighteous mammon (money) will bring true treasure of the kingdom to you. (C) Faithfulness in another man’s business, the Lord said, your own will be given to you. Faithful here is not just in doing the work but as a vessel, have you been thoroughly prepared? Are you a disciple? 2Tim. 3:12-15.
You must be a disciplined follower before you can attract people to follow you. Paul said, “Follow me as I follow Christ.” 1Cor. 11:1. You must have followed a minister with right foundation before you can lead others to fruitful maturity in ministry. Ps. 11:3

The issue here is that faithfulness is success in God. The question is, are you faithful?

3- Paul to Timothy, a spiritual son who was a Pastor in Ephesus to know how to behave himself in the house of the Living God which is ground and pillar of truth. 1 Tim. 3:15. Some have turned the house of God to an entertainment centre; in some Churches, Bible Study has been turned to prayer meeting where they seldom pray the word.
Paul said, some slept while some are weak or sick because of unruly behaviour in the Church especially for eating unworthily the Holy Communion. 1Cor.11:27-30, Eccl. 5:1-2.

4- Root determines fruit: Psalm 1:1-3, Jer. 17:7-8. The root makes the fruit. The root takes in the nutrient by which the tree is nourished. The root determines the plants strength and fruit. Isa. 37:31
5- Association: 1Cor. 15:33. Evil communication corrupts good manner. Again, those who keep company of the wise will be wise but the companion of fools will destroy themselves.

Success in God is doing His will and His will alone no matter the situation or circumstances.
“God has raised from death our Lord Jesus, who is the Great Shepherd of the sheep as the result of his blood, by which the eternal covenant is sealed. May the God of peace provide you with every good thing you need in order to do his will, and may he, through Jesus Christ, do in us what pleases him. And to Christ be the glory forever and ever! Amen.” Heb. 13:20-21
